9N3  NEWS

** August 20, 2002 - John Diaz and John Wnuk have both passed their FAA flight exam today with Mr. Bill Standings and are now Private Pilots.  Both gentlemen were students of Randy Palmer.  Mr. Diaz plans to enjoy a little “non-training” flight for the next month or so before embarking on his instrument rating while Mr. Wnuk will be punching holes in the sky with family and friends. Please join us in congratulating both men on their accomplishment.

** August 19, 2002 - Student pilot Rob Young solo’s!!!  Under the direction of instructor Chad DeNike, Rob made three BEAUTIFUL full stop landings today to put himself well on his way to becoming a private pilot.  WAY TO GO ROB!!!

** August 15, 2002 - Ben Wademan passes his checkride and is now a private pilot.  Under the watchful eye of his “master” airline pilot and father Allen, Ben is on his way to also becoming a professional flyboy.  Immediately after getting his ticket, Ben headed out to the Midwest to be with his fiance Amy to celebrate his accomplishment and begin a new life together.  Congratulation to Ben and much luck and happiness to he and his honey

** July 9, 2002 - The flight school now has an FAA approved instrument flight simulator.  Using the “On Top” software package along with “Precision Flight Instruments” controls, pilot can log up to 10 hours towards their instrument rating with their instructor.  The simulator costs $20 per hour to use in addition to a ground school charge for their instructor.  Stop by for a free test flight on the simulator today.

** May 1, 2002 - Jet-A is now available at the field. The airport has taken delivery of a 1990 Ford, Jet-A Refueler from AvFuel.  The refueler has a 2200 gallon capacity and is equipped to handle both underwing and overwing fueling.  A final inspection and training provided by AvFuel should be completed in the next few days.  It’s hoped that by the 5th, we’ll be open for “Jet-A” business.

** April 18, 2002 - After much hard work and perseverance, Steve Gris solo’s.............and on his birthday!!!  While flying on his own for the first time, Steve said it crossed his mind that his tombstone might end up reading “Born April 18th, Died April 18th”. We’re sure glad he was wrong...............Please join us in wishing Steve Congratulations on his accomplishment and a very Happy Birthday!

** April 12, 2002 - Brian Bell has purchased a 1966 Piper Aztec which will be leased to the flight school for multi-engine training and rental.  The aircraft (N5972Y) is in excellent condition and should be ready to go in the next week or two. Anyone interested in getting their multi-engine rating or renting the aircraft for personal use should call the flight school at 570.945.5125.

** April 2002 - The “NEW” Seamans Airport Pilot Shop is now open, offering a wide variety of items for pilots, instructors and students.  The shop has a full line of Jeppesen and ASA pilot products, along with David Clark, SoftComm and AvComm headsets and intercoms.  Please stop by to check it out the next time you’re at the airport.

** March 18, 2002 - Steve Barnick is back in town through Wednesday the 21st. If you’d like to schedule some instruction with him, please use the online scheduler or e-mail us.

** March 19, 2002 - The long awaited IFR ground school is finally scheduled to begin. Classes will be held at Keystone College and is at capacity. Instructors Fred Herman and Chad DeNike will be teaching and we’re expecting a “surprise” visit from Steve Barnick.  Please e-mail us or call if you’re interested in taking our next instrument class which will be coming this summer.  We’d like to also extend our sincere thanks to Charlotte and Al Ravaioli for getting us a classroom at Keystone College. Charlotte is Dean of the college and was kind enough to let us use the facilities. Al fly’s out of Seamans Airport, is an accomplished aviator, and the proud owner of a Grumman Cheetah.

** March 1, 2002 - The new online flight scheduler is in production and available to all student pilots, renters and instructors. CLICK HERE for more information and to try it out!

** February 27, 2002 - N5123E has recieved another avionics upgrade, this time to Nav/Com #1 in the form of a Narco MK-12E.  The radio has “flip-flop” capabilities and is a welcome improvement from the standard Cessna radios.

** February 25, 2002 - A new TKM/Michel MX385 Nav/Com has been installed in N4876F.  The radio can accept programmed frequencies and also features standby and active frequency windows that can be “flip-flopped”.

** February 19, 2002 - A new Lycoming Factory Overhauled engine was installed in N5123E early this month, along with a 4 place PS Engineering panel mounted intercom.  After extensive flight testing, the engine is running well and has already flown almost 30 hours.  The airport also plans to also install a new engine in N4876F sometime in March 2002.

** Randy Palmer, former chief flight instructor at Tech Aviation in Avoca has joined the instructor staff at Seamans Airport. Randy has over 4000 hours total time, much of it as CFI. In addition, he is also a CFII, has his Commercial rating, and has received advanced aerobatics training.  Please join us in welcoming Randy to the field and don’t forget to  give us a call to schedule some time with him for primary or advanced training, or for your next BFR.

** DECEMBER 30, 2001 - The 1st Annual Seamans Airport Holiday Bash was held at the airport office and was a tremendous success! Over 70 people stopped in to hangar fly and enjoy the food and beverages.  We’d like to thank everyone for all of their support this past year and we’re looking forward to an even more success and fun in 2002.
